Lovely short get away Staff were friendly and helpful. All areas were clean and well presented. Our room was warm and comfortable. A beautiful old Manor House type of building that was made extra special by a flurry of snow ☺️

A pleasant stay We came for a weekend anniversary break. The hotel is very nice and maintained to a good standard. Like many places can do with some updates. But overall, very pleased and happy for the money.

Good but with some faults. Great room again. Only complaint was the breakfast which was very bland. No yogurts which my wife prefers to cereal. And was not offered choice of eggs. The breakfast staff seemed to be in a mood about something and I had to ask for a glass, a coffee mug and cutlery as my table was bare.

So disappointed _ Having never been out for lunch on Christmas Day before, my elderly mother wanted to treat her family and have us all together with her on this special day. This hotel had an excellent reputation in the past and we were so looking forward to the day, to being spoilt and experiencing a Christmas in a luxury country hotel - we were to be extremely disappointed! We were told we could arrive anytime after midday - on arrival at about ten minutes past midday, we were greeted with a welcome drink laid out on tables - all the non-alcoholic drinks were gone and there was only prosecco left - being the designated driver, this left me without a drink. There were no staff there to welcome us and direct us where to go, all the guests were just wandering around until, by luck, they stumbled across the dining room. We found our table and my husband went to get us drinks from the bar. My daughter asked for a cocktail but the young boy serving did not know how to make it, even though it was on their drinks menu, and my husband had to wait ten minutes until a more experienced member of staff appeared. The fact that 99% of the staff seemed to be no older than 21 was to continue to be a theme throughout the afternoon. At this point we were still all expecting a great afternoon. Dining was to commence at 1pm and this is where things went seriously downhill! At about 1.15pm, roughly half a dozen young staff appeared from the kitchen and started giving out bread rolls to go with the soup - they wandered around listlessly and aimlessly, with no obvious plan of where to go and no haste - it felt like an eternity until everyone had a roll. The whole fiasco was then repeated with the soup. There was no-one senior in the room to direct the staff and ensure things were conducted efficiently. Another problem was the amount of people that had been crammed into the room! There was barely room to squeeze between chairs if you went to the bar or the toilet and the whole thing felt like a cattle market, not a luxury Christmas experience. After the soup, the whole thing, if at all possible, got even worse! We must have waited about an hour, if not more, for the main course to come out - it was a complete fiasco! My mother, who is 80 years old, was starting to struggle by the time the main course appeared, she was really tired and stressed out by the whole thing. She felt responsible as it had been her who had suggested going to this hotel and she was getting quite upset, especially when, our table had finally received our food but myself, as a vegetarian, had to wait an extra ten minutes until I could catch someone's eye so that I could have my dinner - we had expected to at least be able to eat together. By the end of the meal, everyone on our table had had enough and so had most people in the room judging by the mutterings and dark looks from other tables. We noticed that quite a few families were asking to have their desserts to take away and I can't say I blame them. When ours finally appeared, we had a few mouthfuls but didn't really have a heart to attack it with gusto, we just wanted to go home and so we left. On another note, the food itself was mediocre at best. My plate had one sprout, my daughter's had none. The vegetables were frozen, not fresh and I honestly have eaten much better in the canteen of the school where I work. The gravy was completely tasteless. The desserts were so obviously mass produced and really uninspiring, I just couldn't be bothered wasting good calories on them. The whole experience was SO disappointing, especially because it is probably the only time we will all go out for Christmas Day together. I would advise anyone NOT to book for Christmas at this hotel!

Horrendous After booking lunch for Christmas Day I will never visit this hotel again. We booked last year and the experience we had this year was totally different. No arrival dinks, cold frozen vegatables, bistro gravy and such a long wait. Staff were not interested and the manager couldn’t give a damn. It was utter carnage there. I was told that the manager from last year had left and someone new had taken over….you could clearly tell.
