No Insurance covering guests belongings ! We visited Bristol for three days and stayed here for the two nights. As we were bringing to bicycle for a grandson we phoned in advance to check that they had a secure are to leave it overnight, we were told yes behind locked gate (over 6' tall and a security call). After arriving a little early Kyle the Manager took us to where the bicycle was going to be stored, we asked it we needed to lock the bike lock but he said no as no-one would get into such an area. The only other bicycle in the secure area was a member of staffs. We then went out to enjoy what Bristol had for us to do and returned later in the day after eating, we brought the grandson back with us to collect the bicycle. My sister collected the key for the gate from the assistant manager Marta but when she got to the gate (which was locked) the bicycle was not there! I asked her to contact Kyle the manager and to phone the police but she didn't even know what police station they came under (Avon & Somerset Police) and told me to contact the police myself. This ruined our whole stay at Brooks Guest House (we have been there before) very emotional and upsetting and felt very let down so we took advice on what to do as we couldn't go home without replacing the bicycle as we had taken advice on what to do as the bicycle was brought us for the grandson to enable him to get to work & back safely. There were no signs anywhere in the building to state that guests belongings were not covered by insurance and we were not told this when Kyle put the bicycle in the secure area. When Kyle was contacted he offered us £200 compensation which we refused as the bike was worth far more (and had new lights, bike chain on it), and we stated that their insurance company should be contacted. After waiting to hear what was happening as the owners lived abroad. He eventually came back to us and stated that the owners do NOT have insurance to cover any guests belongings ! and only to contact them through their solicitors. We have recommended this Guest House to lots of friends but now we want to warn people of the terrible way we were dealt with. In our opinion if you stay here avoid taking anything valuable with you as we would have for anyone else to go through what we have

Tired room saved by exceptional staff and affordable pricing. First impressions of the building are positive, the courtyard and downstairs check in and breakfast area are inviting and homely. My room - whilst very small (though it was advertised as such so no surprise) - was also presentable on first glance and crucially the essentials such as bedding and toilet seemed perfectly clean. However on closer inspection there were a few quibbles I had with the state of the room. The kettle and shower doors were both dirty and in need of additional attention, one of the two windows was also broken at the handle, the bed was unfortunately noisy which did materially disrupt my sleep. There was also no tissues and the bathroom sink was so small and poorly positioned that it was very difficult to brush my teeth over. Still - the night's rest was passable. What made this hotel however is the staff. All were polite and professional, though particular compliments must be shared with Kyle, who ran an exceptional breakfast service. Kyle could not do enough for all guests as they came down - myself included - and he is a credit to the business. The other tick for this location is the pricing is competitive and fair - unlike similar or worse quality establishments charging egregious sums of money for seemingly no good reason whatsoever.

A mixed experience Mixed experience of polite and indifferent staff. I don't want to point out specific people here, but I would encourage this establishment to better train their staff – again, not all – in friendliness (if one can be trained for that), and better guidance (e.g. "The caravans can be accessed by going to the 2nd floor, and then continuing up the stairs. Oh, and mind the stairs on your way down, as you might bump your head Sorry! We don't have a sign up for that yet... but we will!" The price felt expensive for what we got, but I guess if you want convenience, you have to pay more. Having been in several rooms with other guests for the same stay, I was surprised at how small they were for the price (regardless of location/convenience). Also, there was a theft of a family member's personal belongings from our table, and that was not handled well at all. Would I stay there again? Not sure...

Rocket stay Was a really lovely stay in the middle of Bristol, right next to a food market. We stayed in a rocket, a unique experience that was really fun. Comfy bed, hot shower, pretty enjoyable to wake up and step out onto a roof and see and hear Bristol. If you book with them directly breakfast is included, the chef was great, food was cooked fresh for us and the cold breakfast (cereal etc.) was good. Staff were friendly, and very helpful. Would recommend if you're looking for something unique and a bit of fun.
