Great hotel, super friendly staff, really nice room and yummy breakfast Love this hotel - the staff are fabulous, and our room on top floor (301) was spacious warm and spotlessly clean, with nice bathroom and TV to watch in bed and tea and coffee making facilities and wifi - all the staff were great - at reception in restaurant and even cleaning staff - and we did get free parking no problem Breakfast is buffet, but nevertheless, excellent, well cooked and really excellent service again

Buffet breakfast was the only good thing about the stay Buffet breakfast the only good thing about the stay. We booked through booking.com a classic king room and what we got was a very small double room which was not that well maintained or situated. The staff were not helpful when we explained that we had booked a classic king room and there was very little room in the room we had and the bed was not king size. We were told all rooms only had double and it was the room size that was king. The room was tiny and not in good repair, there was the kitchen extractor outside the bedroom window which was noisy all night long, and there was nothing king size about anything. The stairs up to the rooms were not in the best of repair so you had to be careful and generally there was very little that matched what was expected.

Stay if you don't want sleep anyway. Stayed 3 nights on arrival nice looking bar area to find out not open for hotel guests or have any hotel guest facilities. No vending machine to even buy a drink etc especially after a long drive. Check in was fine. No lifts and narrow uneven floors leading to the rooms. The room was small but clean with a good shower. Our room must have been under the laundry place. Humming from machines etc. Disturbed sleep every night if not from drunk students from people in room above moving furniture across the wooden floor. Breakfast we went the 1st morning but frankly with the lack of sleep it wasn't worth getting up for. The food sits in a warmer. The coffee and the pastries was nice. The on site bar/restaurant area nice but cold. Loaded nachos are very nice. Won't be returning to this hotel the staff need to learn to smile and learn what customer service is. More facilities for hotel guests.

I find it ridiculous that you can be put in a place like this and they expect you to put up with it . Checked in and was told I had to got to a seperate building across the street . The rooms are above a very loud student bar , not great if you want an early night as I’m travelling in the morning . Reception have advised the music stops at 11pm , thanks for that . Music is thumping .

Great value hotel Our second visit to the Cairn and it won't be our last. Great location and very friendly staff. We had a standard double in the Carlton annexe. Large, clean and stylishly decorated with a very good bathroom - modern with a huge walk-in shower. Large comfy bed. No noise from the road even though we were on the front of the hotel and it was a Saturday night. I would have given the review 5 stars but there was a bit of a drainy smell in the room.
