Great experience wonderful staff We went for a Saturday afternoon drink, we were welcomed by two young ladies named Mya and Matilda. They were very welcoming and accommodating. We ordered some food which was quick to come out and very tasty. Both girls were polite and made sure that we were all happy with our food and drinks. Highly recommend for a nice chilled Saturday afternoon.

Groupon's Guide To Essex

A host of Grade I- and II-listed buildings offer the base for heritage tourism in Essex, including landmarks like the 7th-century Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall in Bradwell-on-Sea, the Hedingham Castle in Braintree District and the Norman-style Colchester Castle. On top of the approximately 1400 landmarks of historic interest, Essex also boasts a number of unique highlights.

The county is thus home to Finchingfield, the quintessential British village, deemed one of the most beautiful rural hubs of England, and to Great Bentley in the Tendring district, boasting the second largest village green nationwide. Countryside sceneries are complemented by coastal expanses and seascapes, with destinations such as Frinton-on-Sea, Clacton-on-Sea and Mersea Island catering for visitors interested in beach tourism and water sports.

Nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts can head for the wetlands of Abberton Reservoir or for the ancient woodland of Epping Forest. Further pursuits are occasioned by Saffron Walden, a one-of-a-kind blend of rural charm and medieval features, and by the modern-day Lakeside Shopping Centre in West Thurrock, a gargantuan 2600000 square feet shopping centre and one of the largest in Europe.

Shame about service at breakfast Extremely helpful staff on reception which always sets a good first impression. We were in a very spacious clean room (126) and thought the grounds were well set out and maintained. We had a very nice and reasonably priced meal in the evening, a pleasant surprise to be honest. What really let down the hotel though was the breakfast. Items kept running out & you had to report to reception for replenishment as serving staff seemed oblivious. Tables were slow to be cleared and only cursory cleaned. Lots of frustrated guests hanging around, a real shame

Would not return Started ok with welcoming receptionist, got to the room which was fine except some dusty spiders webs (with residents!) It needed a good clean. Went down for dinner and found the restaurant in need of updating, marked tables and one of the chairs had a broken back. Food was generally good for the price. However.......breakfast was awful. It finished at 9:00 and we arrived at 8:30. There was no hot food (apart for 3 burnt sausages), no pastries, plates, cups or glasses. One resident resorted to filing her own flask. When the pastries were finally brought out they were raw inside. If I could give breakfast a zero rating I would. We complained on checkout and were told there was nothing they would do as breakfast was included. We tried to explain that it wasn't included as there was hardly any food! The receptionist was very dismissive and really didn't care. We will never return to this hotel and would not recommend it.

Negative reviews meant we had a better than expected stay Came looking for an overnight stay not expecting much having read some of the negative reviews. BUT... The two young women on duty were friendly, hard working and attentive. Check in was easy and we were reminded to enter our car details for free parking. Our room was spacious, clean with comfortable beds. Plenty of hot water for a bath with 2 overhead shower sprays. We had a restful night's sleep. Evening meal food menu provided a range of "standard" items at very good prices. However, I was not convinced by the claim of "hand stretched, made to order pizzas". The one I ordered was still in the freezer and although my substitute pizza was very nice, I am not convinced the base was hand stretched. Having said that all the food, including breakfast was plentiful and good quality for the price, including the machine coffee in the dining area. There was a notice in our room stating rooms were not serviced daily, unless requested. Plenty of teas, coffee etc. in the dining area to take for anyone needing more for use in their room. Thank you to the staff we saw and any others involved in ensuring we had a relaxing stay.

Fairly depressing hotel Clean functional room, which was fine if you are just passing through. Lighting was dreadful in the room. Overall, it is a fairly depressing hotel. Staff were lovely and clearly doing their best with limited resources. Breakfast was a pretty poor experience, too. For the price, you can get far, far better elsewhere. This hotel either needs to lower its price to match the level of its offer or up its game.
