Wonderful Staff We had a lovely stay. The service was unmatched. We experienced rental car trouble while there and the three front desk assistants went out of their way to be helpful- grabbing jumper cables, helping us call repairs and even running down the street to return our lost mobile!! Those ladies deserve all the credit!

Groupon's Guide to Co. Kilkenny

Nestled in southeastern Ireland, Co. Kilkenny is famous for its medieval ruins, castles, and cathedrals, as well as crafts including pottery, painting, and jewelry making. The namesake capital, Kilkenny, is home to the grand Kilkenny Castle dating back to 1195. Travelers can also visit the 13th-century Black Abbey and its mix of modern and antique stained glass windows, statues, and relics, and venture over to St Mary’s Cathedral, first crafted in the 19th century. Coming back to the present day, visitors can stop by the National Craft Gallery Kilkenny Design Centre which exhibits contemporary pieces by Irish designers or wander in and around the city’s interesting collection of shops, pubs, and restaurants.

The Kilford Arms (Kilkenny restaurant): Tasty Food The Kilford Arms has tasty food. I ate: salmon with hollandaise sauce, mashed potatoes, & veggies (broccoli and cauliflower), chicken wings (comes with French fries and a side salad), and a fruit scone (“fruit scone” actually means a scone with raisins in it). My waiter was nice and let me try a Vegetable Cream Soup after saying I hadn’t had one before. One thing to be aware of service wise: the waiters were always accommodating and food came out quickly, but you have to ask for things (like to refill a drink or for the check even though it was a weekday and the restaurant was empty). The decor was nice inside the restaurant- wooden. I didn’t stay at the hotel. The food was a lot less expensive than Dublin and the U.S. I recommend this restaurant and would go back. I would give 5/5 stars if service was impeccable, but this restaurant’s food was very good. I only give 5 stars if you “have” to go to this restaurant while you’re visiting this area because it’s that unique. I was in this area visiting the Kilkenny Castle. There’s cool caves and churches to check out too!

Visually interesting experience. We did not stay in the hotel. We did experience the Kilford Hotel bar/restaurant. After passing through the traditional looking bar/restaurant we walked around the nightclub bar which had 3 or 4 levels and was built around the imported and reconstructed ruins of a Welsh medieval church ruin. It was visually very interesting. There was almost nobody there when we were there, but the bartender told us it gets extremely busy, especially after all the other bars close and Kilford remains open.
