A nice stay in Cheltenham Visited with my other half for a long weekend whilst we visited some of the National Trust properties in the area. The room was well-sized, clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly, the only minus we found was the amount of noise transmitting from other rooms, the first night there were kids running around shrieking in the hallways at around 11pm, and a restless toddler crying in an adjacent room, once it got late, this wasn't a problem, and the next night was miuch quieter. Also, it might just be me, but I wouldn't generally expect to pay for parking? but it was only £7 per 24hr period so not a massive cost. We also ate on site at the restaurant and found it very good, we both opted for burgers so nothing too fancy, but as I said, it was very good.

Dirty changing rooms and pool area We visited the swimming pool as it’s a warm pool for the children. I couldn’t believe how much it’s gone down hill and how dirty the changing rooms were and the pool area. This was not a one of as the last few times I have visited the pool it’s been the same. We’ve gone on different days and different times and it’s always really dirty. How they can charge what they do and you don’t feel you can walk on the floors and the pool felt and looked dirty. Such a shame as it’s so convenient but we won’t be returning.

Book a Travelodge instead Pleasant enough greeting at reception, having booked online. Was not best pleased to be charged £7 for parking overnight - that hadn't been clear when we booked. Cleanliness and order in the public areas was OK, but additional electric heaters plugged in at random spots in the public areas was a little odd and didn't sit with the supposed eco friendly emphasis. Room was clean and spacious enough. Bathroom was a little tired and cheap toiletries in bottles fixed to the wall were tacky. At least there was plenty of tea & coffee plus hanging space with a few hangers - sometimes missing. Desk & chair were OK for some light working and illumination was reasonable - desk light, wall lights over the bed and a ceiling light. Made the mistake of going for an evening meal in the restaurant and wished we hadn't. One meal was served almost cold and had to go back. When the replacement came there were several chunks of inedible gristle and bone in the shredded chicken. The other meal was warm but poor for the price charged - a narrow fillet of salmon, bowl of chips, four cooked tomatoes on a vine and a solitary cooked mushroom... The duty manager got involved and was apologetic - we ended up paying for one meal only but it was a bad experience. There were a lot of people staying overnight but very few eating in the restaurant - noticeably other people were complaining as well. Breakfast was the usual buffet, selection was good and quality reasonable, if a little colder than ideal in the Bain Marie and under the lights. All the staff we interacted with were pleasant - one got the impression they were trying their hardest, within the requirement to pinch ever possible penny imposed by head office Felt disappointed by the whole experience and considering the price we paid for the overnight stay could not help but feel we had been ripped off, paying mid-market hotel rates for nothing better than a Travelodge. As for the food - even a spit & sawdust pub or cheap chain would have been much much better. Never again!
