Couple Night Away We stayed in the hotel for the night.Room modern, spacious and spotlessly clean. Hairdryer, fridge, safe, robes and ironing board in room along with tea/coffee facilities.Even complimentary birthday card,2 free glasses of wine and 15%off dining voucher for my birthday. Great night sleep, very quite. We ate and the food was amazing the hospitality was amazing and all the staff were polite and helpful. £7 to park in the car park for 24hours. Spa facilities not great, hot tub jets not very powerfull and everyone complained it was way to hot.limited seating around the pool and steam/sauna up stairs. The stairwell down to the pool could do with a good clean.Changing rooms spotlessly clean. Great location for tutor house, some history and local eateries just outside the main shopping centre. The whole hotel had a lovely calm feeling and will be back again.

Groupon's Guide To Southampton

Southampton, located on the south coast of England, is a vibrant city renowned for its maritime history, cultural heritage, and bustling port. Often referred to as the "Gateway to the World," it serves as one of the UK’s busiest cruise ports, with thousands of visitors embarking on journeys each year. The city boasts a rich history, including its role as the departure point for the Titanic in 1912, which is commemorated at the SeaCity Museum.

Southampton offers a mix of historic and modern attractions, such as the Tudor House and Garden, which provides a glimpse into the city's past, and the contemporary West Quay shopping center, one of the largest retail hubs in the region. Its cultural scene is lively, with venues like the Mayflower Theatre hosting world-class performances, and the Southampton City Art Gallery displaying an impressive collection of art.

Let to diminish despite glimmers that it was once a 5 star hotel. There are still glimmers that this was once a plush hotel but on the whole, it seems to have been let to suffer with very little updating in terms of decoration or maintenance. A broken shower door in our room, rusty stairs to the pool, dusty vents above the pool, a dirty lift and many other pockets of thick dirt. This could be really good again as the staff and service are great. Definitely not worthy of 4 stars currently but close with a bit of attention.

Overall average visit We stayed here for just 1 night this weekend and it’s a very mixed review. On arrival the hotel looks beautiful. Every single staff member we encountered was more than polite, helpful and cheerful! It had all of the expected amenities and services which was great. The room was a good size with an amazing bed. However, there was an extremely strong damp/mildew smell immediately on entering. As we were only staying the one night, we decided not to let it bother us or mess about. There was a bit of trodden in food or sauce on the carpet near the table, windows were damp and mouldy. Other than that it was generally clean and acceptable- but not quite what I expected when we chose a nicer hotel instead of a budget as a treat! On returning home and unpacking, the damp smell of it is so strong on all of our clothes and belongings; I honestly couldn’t believe it was so distinctive after just 1 night in this room at £120. Breakfast (extra paid for this) was fine, it did the trick but wasn’t anything to write home about. The bar was beautiful but extremely expensive (which we expected to be fair!)

Great location for cruisers, but the hotel needs a serious refresh Rating: 3/5 We stayed at the Leonardo Royal Hotel (Grand Harbour) in Southampton for one night in September 2025 before joining a cruise the following morning. While the location is incredibly handy for the port, the hotel itself was disappointing in several areas. The Positives: The location is the main draw, making it a very convenient choice for an overnight stay before a cruise. Our bedroom was spacious and the bed was comfortable, which allowed for a good night's sleep. The Negatives: Condition: The hotel feels rather tired and is in definite need of an upgrade. Facilities: We used the pool and the surrounding area, but found it quite tacky. It was poorly maintained and clearly needed a deep clean. Service: We found the staff to be quite brash and not particularly friendly, which was especially noticeable with the front desk team. Dining: Breakfast was just "okay." While the cooked options were fine, there was a disappointing lack of fruit choice. Verdict: Despite the spacious rooms, this does not feel like a premium establishment. I wouldn't give it more than a 3-star rating. Given the huge choice of hotels now available in Southampton, we likely would not stay here again.

Avoid. Needs gutted. Stayed 1 night prior to cruise. Awful. Stained carpets, run down, damp smelling, tatty, the lift looked like someone had had a food fight in it months ago and not been cleaned since. Stars are for the staff - place needs knocked down and rebuilt.
