Fantastic little break in a lovely hotel I spent a few days away with my partner and little boy, the hotel is located in the centre of the city. It was great for shopping and for local attractions. Our room was spotless and very spacious, we had it serviced every day with clean towels and toiletries. All the staff very helpful and friendly. They provided information on great local attractions and gave my little boy some chocolates. We will definitely be staying again. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

AVOID! Absolutely Disgusting with moth infestation > Do not book this hotel. Looks nice when you come into reception with lovely old fashioned foyer and grand staircase but don’t be fooled. It’s knackered and well past its sell-by date. > Our ‘deluxe’ bedroom (room 123 - don’t go there!) had very badly stained carpet which was filthy with fluff and dust around the edges. > A weird and very creaky mini staircase led down to the shower room. Hideous stained tiles in shower and brown crust and black mould all around shower door frame which was disgusting, Elemis dispensers also encrusted with gunk and soap dispenser was broken and dirty. > Tired fusty furniture and broken bedside lamps, but very worst of all the carpet had MOTHS, I managed to kill 2 at my side of bed (don’t know where the rest went) and found more in shower room. There were probably lots of them under the bed and furniture, I kept my suitcase zipped up at all times. > Took photos of everything so they can’t deny it. > No time or energy to move elsewhere or make complaint as they clearly couldn’t care less or have given up trying. The bed/sink/toilet were clean but those were the only positives and the cleaners are clearly fighting a losing battle. Macdonald Hotels should hang their heads in shame. > To add insult to injury, apart from all of the above (and outwith the hotel’s control) we were directly above a busy and very noisy nightlife hub and the shouting/singing/screaming/laughing (and a couple of times, crying) went on without pause until after 5am. > This ‘deluxe bedroom’ was simply not fit for purpose on any level whatsoever. > Absolutely appalling, would never stay there again. Emailed a complaint and demanded a full refund: got it next day with a very impressive and fulsome apology so at least they got something right.

Horrible experience. Very upsetting. Disgusting. Upsetting and awful in everyway. Dirty, noisy, rude. Horrible experience.

Avoid if you have any mobility issues or if you want a cleaned room. The hotel has no disabled access and you only find this out if you book an accessible room. The manager had no idea about the hotel policies on evacuation plans for disabled guests. According to the manager the disabled access was removed when changes to the road outside were made. The next issue was the room, broken toilet seat and a packet of pills in the dressing table drawer. Spoke to reception on leaving, reiterated request for the chance to discuss the issues with MacDonald group. I heard nothing, I completed their on line form the following day to request contact about the hotel issues. I tried a few weeks later by phoning the hotel, reception told me they had the form and didn't know why the manager hadn't acted on it. I was told I would get a refund. Nothing for a month so I contacted Aviemore as the hotel was not answeringthephone, I was given customer services email address. I sent all the info and photos but still no contact. Another month went by, early February and I called the hotel again. I informed them that I had contacted Chester and Cheshire West Councils regarding the issues, in fairness they then did refund the room cost. Still no contact from the group. Hopefully they will realise that the poor running of the hotel and bad group management is leading them down a bad route.

Basic hotel in need of an upgrade The hotel is in a good location and the staff were friendly but the hotel and rooms are very tired and in need of an upgrade. The beds were comfortable enough for one night. I had seen the previous reviews which are bad and feared the worst but it wasn't as bad as I thought it may be. I wouldn't stay here again but if you want a basic room with no frills in a good location then it may be ok for you.
