Better than a hostel It seems a little unfair to give a poor review to a hotel on the seafront when they charge £26 per night. Encouraged by some recent positive experiences, and a location that suited me, I gave this place a try rather than the Premier Inn. It was just about OK. What I found was that it was just plain odd. The rooms are accessed through a restaurant that appears to have been abandoned. Once into the stairwell and corridors, the senses are assaulted by a combination of vomit-inducing wallpaper and silver carpets that are in urgent need of a deep clean. Outside the door to my room was what I thought was a fungal fruiting body, but which turned out to be a floral glass ornament placed on the carpet without any apparent purpose other than to pose a trip hazard. The communal areas are somewhat battered and once inside the room, there was a lot of noise from those spaces. Rooms are accessed via a combination code that is supposed to be sent to you on the day of arrival. Mine never showed up. The door didn’t feel very secure and it fitted poorly as there was a lot of light coming through the gap between the door and frame. The room was pretty cold and the bathroom particularly so. An oil filled radiator is provided with a tower fan to control temperature. I used neither out of fear for my safety. The room was better than the communal spaces. It was acceptably clean, although the tired bathroom had some black mould and poor attention to the sanitary ware in some areas. I had a sea view room with a balcony. It was still winter so I didn’t venture out, but had I done so, I would have had to use a flaking metal chair with only one usable arm. The view over the beach is lovely as long as you ignore all the other horrid structures along the seafront. Everything worked out, the staff tried to be cheerful and helpful although I struggled with the concept of paying £10 to leave my car on the chaotic hard standing outside the building. I realised in daylight that one of the front windows was smashed. The parking area itself is also easily blocked by people parking (legally) in the street next to the hotel. If you have to stay in Newquay and you’re on a very tight budget, this place is acceptable. You’ll get your own room for the price of a bed in a hostel. However, if you’re looking for something cosy and familiar, just book the Premier Inn. One pet hate is being press ganged to provide a positive review on leaving a property. The proprietor, whilst friendly and cheerful applied a little too much pressure for my liking. I didn’t feel comfortable enough to express my thoughts at that moment.

Groupon's Guide To Cornwall

From Bude to Land's End, Cornwall encompasses everything from chocolate-box villages to vast Atlantic coastlines and vibrant surfing hubs. As residents are rarely more than a half-hour drive from the sea, there's no surprise it plays a huge part to Cornish life, with busy harbours and Michelin star awarded seafood restaurants allowing fish to go from boat to plate in 24 hours.

With clubs, bars, and extreme sports, Newquay has plenty to offer for a youthful crowd, while family-friendly Falmouth has more sheltered beaches and all-ages day outs such as the National Maritime Museum. Away from beach life, grown-up St Ives is an established arts centre, home to the Tate St Ives, Barbara Hepworth's garden and a wealth of independent galleries. Inland a little, the Eden Project's greenhouse biomes create spectacular tropical environs and an otherworldly, space-age feel. Visitors can also buy into the local legends on Bodmin Moor or hike along the rugged landscape to catch a glimpse of the fabled beast.

OYO Newquay Beach Hotel - Awful experience My first impression of the OYO Newquay Beach Hotel was not good, the two pairs of sliding doors into reception were not working and had to be pulled shut holding the glass, and so it was freezing because of the icy sea wind. I noticed that one of the downstairs windows was broken too. The area next to reception clearly hadn't been cleaned for some time as the debris from a Valentines celebration was still strewn about the place. I was shown to my room up a couple of dingy carpeted stairways that hadn't been vacuumed in quite a while. At the top of the stairs near my room was more evidence of the Valentines party, with confetti and semi-deflated balloons scattered about the place. My impression wasn't improved on entering the room, which was freezing although they had supplied a plug-in radiator.  The quilt was very slim, more of a summer quilt, so I had to turn the heating right up to keep warm.  The towels supplied for the bathroom were dirty and there was no covering at the window which, although frosted, didn't hide much with the light on! As they hadn't mentioned breakfast during check-in I went back to reception to enquire what time the dining room opened in the morning, only to be told that they no longer provide a breakfast service. The booking however clearly stated "bed & Breakfast". When I pointed this out, I was told I could go across the road to another hotel and pay for breakfast there! I said this wasn't acceptable and the manager just said they would make a refund after I checked out. I pointed out all of these faults when I checked out next morning and the manager seemed really surprised. I checked out the next day as I couldn't possibly stay for the next two days as planned.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER Truly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. We were made to move from Room 30 to Room 6, which was significantly smaller, with no balcony or sea view, and no refund or price adjustment was offered. The original room smelt strongly of marijuana and cigarettes, which is completely unacceptable. What followed was genuinely terrifying. A man staying one room away was hanging around our car and threatened to chop our heads off. During our stay, police arrived and raided the hotel. We felt unsafe the entire time. I asked on the night for a refund and was told by multiple staff members it could take 7–14 days. The very next day, I was told “sorry for the inconvenience” and that nothing could be done, making it clear we were just an issue they wanted to brush aside. I’m in the process of looking to move to the area and was testing accommodation options, this was by far the worst. The hotel is chaotic, misleadingly advertised, and nowhere near the standard shown online. We would have been far better off staying at the Premier Inn 3 places up, where safety and quality are guaranteed! If unsatisfied a refund process is nowhere near as hard as this. I am requesting a full refund for both rooms. The handling of this situation has been nothing short of dismissive and disappointing. Avoid at all costs. Also forgot to mention the sanity of the room! There were fab nubs over the floor. Mud up the stairs. The glass of the hotel had a fully cracked glass. Just absolutely disgusting.
