Service lets hotel down I visited with my husband for two nights. The hotel is in a lovely location and we were able to do an 8 mile circular walk, which included a stop in the Pheasant, which was a very lovely country pub. The grounds and public areas of the castle are nice but our room was in need of updating. I appreciate that in s hotel of this type/size maintenance is a challenge, but the bathroom in particular needed sorting, the toilet didnt flush properly, the shower was luke warm and the sealant was black. However it was clean and comfortable. What really let the hotel down was the service. We ate in the brasserie for an evening meal and lunch and whilst the food was very nice, the service wasn't great. Service at breakfast both mornings was even worse and you are required to play supplements for lots of the items on the menu. The wine cellar bar was nice, with some lovely cocktails. If reviewing just our experience in the restaurant would have given 5 stars, absolutely amazing food on tasting menu, very good wine flight and service from a young waiting staff was excellent. Checkout was an absolute farce for us and others, with many bills being wrong and reception staff struggling to put them right, with a couple not being particularly pleasant either. Had a lovely weekend but wouldn't rush back

Birthday treat Visited for a birthday treat, requested and paid for balloons in the room to surprise my other half, but no balloons had been put there, and receptionist didn’t attempt much of an apology. On arrival we weren’t given very much information on the hotel and it the layout, but this was ok as we just ventured around and found the wine cellar bar ourselves.! The food and service in the restaurant was amazing. However the w_description on the website that the ‘highlight will be the living wall in the restaurant’ was a little bit of a let down- I was expecting something grand- a highlight, but it resembled a few window sill plant pots with the smallest of plants poking through the soil.! Hardly a highlight.! But again the service here was incredible, the waiters/waitresses really worthy of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nice Great Looking Castle but the hotel bit could be better! Great looking Victorian Castle. Car Park a long walk uphill not easy for pensioners. Won’t allow parking at the top. Lots of steps to room only some areas have lifts. Stair lift chair didn’t work. No biscuits in room no nibbles or crisps in bar. Bathroom had broken window. Cold. Dinner had Triple Cooked Chips that didn’t even make it past 1st stage!! Pale yellow not crispy and hard! Changed but just the same just hotter?? Breakfast was good though. They had early checkouts so get up early.
