Honest review We decided to stay at the Skipton Hotel as we love Yorkshire, and to be fair, on arrival the staff were very welcoming and polite. First impressions of the hotel were good, with plenty to do if you had the time – swimming pool, gym, and fitness classes available. We dined in the hotel in the evening and the food was nice, making for a pleasant meal. Breakfast, however, wasn’t the best. There was plenty of variety, but unfortunately the food was only lukewarm, which was disappointing. Now to the rooms. The rooms themselves were spacious, with a decent-sized TV and a sofa, which was a plus. The bathroom was okay but nothing amazing if I’m honest. The biggest downside was the bed – it was extremely uncomfortable, like sleeping on plywood. It was an old-style divan bed and incredibly hard, which made it difficult to get any sleep. As if the bed wasn’t enough, the fire alarm went off at around 4am. We rushed out of bed, only for it to stop a few moments later. Then about 10 minutes later, it went off again. When checking outside, there was no one at the assembly point, which made it seem like a very odd time to be testing an alarm system. To summarise, the staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The rooms were spacious but definitely need better beds. Evening meals were fine, breakfast was a bit of a flop, but the hotel is well located, central to everything, and offers plenty of facilities on site.

TUI package over night stay. The rooms were tired and need updating. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely young man James however the service was downhill from there. We had to eat our evening meal in the lounge as they didn’t open the restaurant due to lack of numbers. The service was average. We had a deal with TUI and part of the deal was a glass of prosecco which we had to ask for 3 times. The following morning (29th) we asked reception about where to eat breakfast. The receptionist was quite cold giving us a basic description of where to go. Upon checking out she gave us no eye contact and again was unfriendly. Unfortunately I won’t be staying there again. The only positive was the young man James who greeted us on reception.

Three night break We had a thoroughly enjoyable three nights. The room was spacious and clean with plenty of storage. The bathroom was big with a bath and over bath shower and lashings of hot water. There is a reasonable priced well stocked bar. The restaurant is comfortable with views over the canal and first rate food. All the staff we encountered had excellent costumer service skills and are a credit to the hotel, a special mention for Fallon, Jack (restaurant and bar) and Sharron on reception.
