Lady Sings The Blues features 17 of Rebecca Ferguson’s interpretations of classic Billie Holiday tracks, some of which featured on her album of the same name. The 2010 X-Factor runner-up said she found similarities in Holiday’s lyrics to her own experiences, and wanted to express them in her own way; “When I was listening to some of the lyrics, they reminded me of how I used to be. She had turbulent relationships and I could really relate to that.” Holiday’s album and story led to the Oscar-nominated film starring Diana Ross, and Ferguson now brings her own expression and story to these classic songs for a new generation.
