A mechanical injury results when a bone misaligns in a way that the body cannot self-correct. This happens because the body does not have a muscle pulling in the direction needed to correct the misalignment. In the spine this occurs when a bone gets stuck forwards and because the body cannot self-correct the position of those forwards bones, it must compensate by twisting and locking. Over time, after accumulating numerous forward bones your body has to create a series of compensations in order to establish some sort of balance. This results in a very twisted up body, which begins to hurt!
