Following a fall out with tarmac, Shandon Off Road Challenge now saddles up its four-wheeled steeds and takes to tougher routes over 800 acres of rough terrain and bogs. With a selection of vehicles, including the Land Rover Discovery and Defender, the team brings adrenaline seekers on topsy turvy tours down steep slopes and muddy fields.

Expert tutors are on-hand as wheel spinners take to the hills surrounding Gareloch for an off-road adventure. As part of a shared ride, drivers will spend 60 minutes or 90 minutes in the vehicle, with 20 or 45 minutes respectively behind the wheel, providing ample time to give fellow passengers victory bumps. During the experience, drivers will learn a selection of off-road techniques that will help them overcome a host of wheel lifting obstacles.

After a short but thorough briefing it was straight into the driver's seat of a Landrover Discovery - fully kitted out for off-roading. The pace was slow but sure which is the only safe way to cover the varied but always rough ground. The trails are extensive and generally pretty wild, up in the hills above Shandon.
