From Our Editors

Shaka Zulu is located in the heart of the Camden Stables Market with a large mezzanine style decked out in wooden murals, giving a taste of African art. The restaurant is educating London palates on the flavours of South Africa, from traditional braai food to potjies and native meats such as springbok and wildebeest. Blessed by the Zulu King HRH Goodwill Zwelithini when it opened its doors in 2010, the venue offers an atmospheric place with live music, African dancers and entertainment.

Loved the experience, however i had an early evening meal and found that the ambience became more 'authentic african' towards the end of the evening. Impressed by all the carvings, decor and furnishing. The menu we had was europeanised as was the early evening music. However each experience varies, the foot was enjouyable, we ate vegetarian and non alcholic cocktails. Left feeling full and ready to visit again.

Venue was great, stunning & the food just didn't match the atmosphere & decor or even come close. Groupon offer was a rip off. Was annoyed that I was charged service charge on the entire meal, even though the meal had been pre-paid, why not just charge us on what we had purchased at the venue, that was cheeky! The prawns should of been hot. The main course was just the baby chicken on a plate, didn't even come with the baby watercress as indicated & to add insult to injury the chicken wasn't seasoned at all & there was no condiments on the table & we had to ask for salt & We waited 30 mins for our desert. The staff were lovely & the 2 who served us were great. I thought the whole purpose of the groupon is to serve people a taster menu to encourage them to return! Based on the food I wouldn't because it really wasn't good & we could of had better on one of the stalls outside, which is a shame because venue was great. Clearly not a representation of south African food, because it was just a basic menu. Could of been a lot better. Very confusing entrance & the reception for a restaurant. Had an escalator that wasn't working, which was quite dangerous to walk down, in heels, even though there were lifts that you couldn't use, not sure what that was about. If there was a fire it would of been a death trap, its just a health hazard waiting to happen. From what I had heard from people I was disappointed that the food wasn't up to stratch, I'm sure it was good when it first opened. but now its clearly going downhill. Hence groupon.

Very nice restaurant and great food, would be nice to be told that mains don't come with sides and can be added for £5 or the sauce with the steak is £6 before hand! Great place to go, just be aware of the extra costs.

Well I have to say, my first impressions of this Cavaness restaurant over two floors was not great as it seems very empty and soulless. However when I was a escorted downstairs to meet my guest for dinner I was pleasantly surprised to see quite a few tables occupied . The group on set menu was excellent and the food superbly delicious. For the first time ever I actually had the lamb samosas for my desert as well as my starter. Beware though we still managed to end up with a £44 bill in addition to our groupo we still managed to end up with a £44 bill in addition to our groupon

The portions did not look appetizing. the shrimp starter was four shrimp on a plate with some lettuce... They did not manage to cook the beef properly. i ordered Bleu and after a third time back it was still at least medium. The cost on top of the groupon was extortionate. even without hte wine

Great time at shaku Zulu. Word of warning as others have said be prepared to take more money we needed an extra 30 to cover what we purchased. Food was just over average but the experience was good.

The sides were five pounds each, which is too much, so actually, this was not a cheap meal at all. Also there were supplementary costs to some dishes like beef, which did not make sense. Had a lovely time and the food was good, not sure about the deal....

Had been before, but things have changed for the worst. We were not advised until we got there that we would be restricted to a stay of 2 hours. Also main dishes only include the protein and all mains require you to order a side at an additional £5 each side. There is no way without incurring extra costs that you are provided with complete main dish. Shabby!
