From Our Editors

Transporting diners back to the Roaring Twenties, The Palm Court is a tea lounge dating back to the era of art deco. Surrounded by tapestries, marble flooring and original ceiling details, guests can sip on tea and bubbly whilst nibbling on dainty delights and listening to the dulcet tones of the resident harpist. The lounge is set within The Park Lane Hotel London, adorned with five stars and located on one of London's most prestigious avenues.

The hotel had a very perculiar smell which put us off eating our cold stale sandwiches. The cakes were very small and limited, the best part was the scones but even they were tiny

Was rather suprised when looking at the voucher after the visit that it was 5*. Having eaten/stayed at The Savoy and Ritz and various other top places this was more like a 4*. The reason for this in the main was that the service was not what you would expect. We were asked after the sandwiches if everything was ok and it was. Very disappointed that we were not checked on again with the scones as we had run out of cream and couldn't catch anyones eye. The option for the patisseries was only two each but mostly I think the fact we had to pour our own tea was quite a let down. Given the price before the voucher I think perhaps although slightly dearer, The Savoy would definitely be my recommendation and sadly not The Park Lane Hotel. What I would say was a plus was the live harpits.... it did make the afternoon very pleasant.

Service could have been slightly better and the sandwiches were a little sparse though they did offer another round on the house. Altogether a very pleasant experience, nice ambience and I would recommend it.
