From Our Editors

Harts Barn Cookery School is based in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. While the school was opened by Adam Henson in June 2011, the site on which it stands dates back to 1068. Offering a variety of cooking classes, Harts Barn Cookery school aims to make cooking knowledge widely available, and believes in the community-building power of social activity around the act of making and enjoying food. Besides cooking events, Harts Barn Cookery school organises events, pop-up restaurants, a hire-a-chef service, demonstrations, parties, and large group packages. The Barn has an earth oven and courtyard area for outdoor cooking experiences on location. Harts Barn is home to craftspeople and artists who sell their jewellery, wood carvings, modern art, and vintage homeware in the shops on site. It features a lake, picnic area, and a tea room for those that want to extend their day of cooking beyond the kitchen.

An enjoyable course. The ingredients were well prepared and the washing up was done for you! Good in all respects but 2 hours was too short to complete all aspects satisfactorily. 3 hours would have given a comfortable amount of time to achieve everything satisfactorily. The course leader also made this comment.

Can fully recommend Hart's barn, location, staff, excellent. The disappointing side of it was we thought we bought a 3 hour long session through Groupon. Decided to confirm my booking with Hart's barn before we went, and not surprisingly we weren't booked on the session we had booked through this site. We also were only given a two hour slot not 3 like advertised, which made it a rushed experience

Been to courses previously which have been fun, hands on and informative. This course was more of a demonstration, spent far too much time just standing to watching a badly organised demonstration. All sauces were pre made which was disappointing, would of been good if the class in groups could have made them. Sadly a disappointing afternoon.
