From Our Editors

In the heart of a major port and close to the New Forest, SeaCity Museum houses an array of historical artefacts mainly taken from archives and the city’s seafaring past. Exhibitions include ‘Southampton’s Titanic Story’ and ‘Gateway to the World’. With its glass-roofed atrium and a large space to spread out in, the museum can be used as a venue for conferences, or for an assortment of different events.

A few seats would not go amiss, my husband is recovering from knee surgery and found it tiring as I am sure many people would.

Your Staff were very helpful to us and we sensed a happy atmosphere prevailing. I cannot be more specific but I just got the feeling that there was a positive attitude in the Museum. This was most welcome.

Just to say, I wish I had gone a lot earlier to see this Museum because for one I live in the city. The staff are lovely and keep a good smooth running of the museum. Loved it and will be seeing me again the future to see your special displays that you have through out the year.

When we've visited other similar exhibitions there has been more items on display. On a recent visit to Brussels we were given an entrance ticket which gave an identity of one of the passengers (all different) and we were able to find out a/ who he or she was b/ their profession c/class the travelled in and b/their fate. Interesting concept

As we realy enjoyed the visit and learned a lot,the only thing I would suggest is to lower the hook on the back of the toilet door.I couldn't reach to hang my coat or handbag up.Had to use the floor which wasn't very hygienic .

The museum was nice , and seeing the law courts was very interesting. Living in Southampton I was bitterly disappointed that there was hardly any maritime history , this year is the 175 anniversary of white star/cunard . They have the wonderful model of the queen mary but nothing about the other great ocean bearing liners of this city, Nothing mentioning that the Queen Mary went to war, the QE2 and Canberra assisted in the Falklands war. I would like to know why all those great artefacts that were housed in the Maritime museum are just boxed away in storage.... I understand they museum got lottery funding based on the titanic exhibition, but honestly other ocean liners have won the blue ribbon trophy for fasted crossing across the Atlantic. the museum is call SEACITY...... it should be re named the titanic museum...... No mention of the arcialogical digs in Southampton or the history. Im sorry its saddens me that all we are being famous for is the titanic that sunk and students.... We have a great maritime heritage , my father his brother and my grandfather all lived in Liverpool and worked from Southampton on many great bearing ocean liners and nothing was mentioned.
