This one-hour tour begins with a cable railway ride which takes guests hundreds of feet underground, where they’ll hear tales of a Victorian miner’s life as they explore for half a mile. They’ll discover a chamber which has remained unseen for over 50 years, and witness a demonstration of slate mining tools from the past century. Following a slate splitting demonstration they’ll have an opportunity to try their hand at crafting an item or two, and after descending 61 steps they’ll walk back up 72 steps at the the end of the tour to enter the final chamber. A hot drink such as a cappuccino is included for each visitor, who also get 20% off any slate products bought on the day.

Llechwedd Slate Caverns

Situated near the historic mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, Llechwedd Slate Caverns offer a range of attractions for a family day out. There is an on-site slate workshop, where guests can watch the team make slate signs, numbers and gifts, before trying their hand at crafting one or two items. Mine tours are also on offer, taking guests hundreds of feet underground to experience a day in the life of a Victorian-era slate miner. There are also downhill bike tracks and a subterranean playground with giant bouncy nets, as well as an on-site cafe where guests can refuel after a day full of exploration.
