About This Deal
The Born To Read Campaign
Literacy skills among Britain’s poorest children are a real problem, with one in four leaving primary school unable to read properly. Failure to tackle the issue at an early stage can lead to isolation, a lack of qualifications and eventually problems finding employment in adulthood. All of these in turn contribute to the damaging cycle of deprivation. Save the Children has launched its Born To Read campaign to help tackle the issue early on. By training volunteers and providing them with the necessary resources, they will work with schools to offer support to those children most in need of a little extra support. By 2017 they hope to have transformed the literacy skills and life-chances of at least 23,000 children.
Choose from the following options (outcomes are only examples of what donation amounts could support):
-
£5 for a 30-minute reading session between a volunteer and child
-
£10 for two educational books to help a child learn to read
-
£34 for one-to-one volunteer support for a child for one month
