iPilot is a company marketing flight simulators for use by the general public. Wolfram Schleuter founded the company in 2009. He is an amateur pilot. The iPilot simulator allows anyone over the age of five to take the controls of a passenger jet. The simulators are located in airports and shopping centres. The first one was located in the Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent. Now there are iPilot simulators in Germany and Qatar in addition to the UK. As well as appealing to the public as an entertainment, the simulators are also used by pilots to gain experience. It is possible to choose from a variety of airports for take-off and landing. Complete trips, such as a thirty minute flight from London to Paris, can also be experienced.
iPilot runs special sessions to help those who are afraid of flying. These sessions are conducted by a professional pilot and can reassure nervous fliers. They demonstrate how passenger jets are controlled and what safety measures are employed. The company offers packages for corporate entertainment for groups of between six and twenty people. A competitive element can be introduced to these sessions, with participants endeavouring to be the best at landing at a specific airport. These events are held in Westfield Shopping Centre in London and include light refreshments. Gift cards may be purchased online for the simulator experience. They must be used within six months of purchase. iPilot also stocks clothing with the Boeing logo and models of Boeing planes.
