Cocktails At Malmaison Glasgow
Chez Mal Bar, the cocktail bar at Malmaison Glasgow, is a force to be reckoned with. Malmaison hotels are known for their unique style, quirky décor and opulent atmosphere. Chez Mal Bar reflects this perfectly with its industrial design (including a statement wall of beer barrels) mixed with pops of bright colour in the soft furnishings, and its inventive cocktails with a twist. If you come for a night out at Malmaison Glasgow, this is the low-down on what to order from the extensive bar menu.
Visiting the bar in this former Greek Orthodox church is a real experience, and the drinks are no less amazing that the stunning surroundings. As cocktails go, they are rather reasonably prices- ranging from the normal £8.50, to £12.95 for those with a Veuve Clicquot champagne base.Chez Mal Bar has all the classics, including delicious Martinis (house vodka or gin, Martini Bianco and an olive or twist) and Cosmopolitans (Belvedere Citrus Vodka, Cointreau, Eager cranberry juice and lime juice).
You can also go tropical with a creamy Pina Colada (Mount Gay Extra Old, pineapple juice, cream, cream of coconut and fresh lime) or a sharp Mojito (Bacardi Superior Rum, fresh lime, sugar syrup, soda and mint leaves)- they’ll make you feel you are on the other side of the world.
If you want to go all out, you can try one of Chez Mal Bar’s own unique creations that come complete with risqué names. I’d recommend trying the refreshing Truth or Dare (Belvedere Vodka, lemon juice, sugar syrup, fresh lychee, sage leaves and a dash of absinthe) and their Painkiller cocktail (Mount Gay Eclipse rum, JM Bailey Gold rum, pineapple juice, cream of coconut and orange juice). If cocktails aren’t for you, Chez Mal Bar at Malmaison Glasgow also has an excellent selection of craft beers (six on tap and lots of other bottled offerings), and serves champagne in abundance. There is also a moderately-priced bar food menu available until 7pm, with options such as the Mal Classic Burger with fries, Gruyere cheese and Ayrshire bacon (£16) or Hand-Rolled Tagliatelle with truffle puree (£15).
If you aren’t fit to go home after your wild night of cocktail debauchery, the Malmaison Glasgow hotel has 72 bedrooms and suites with torrential showers to refresh you. The rooms are all moodily lit too- perfect for that thumping headache. Plus, their superior full Scottish breakfast will settle that stomach in no time.
Malmaison Glasgow’s Chez Mal Bar is the perfect venue for all drinking occasions- a solo tipple, a romantic rendezvous, or a night out with the girls. I love how it manages to feel so upmarket, yet remains relaxed at the same time. I’d thoroughly recommend paying a visit.
