From Our Editors

Dating back to the year 1206, The Bishop's Palace once served as suitably grand lodgings for the medieval bishops of Bath and Wells. The historic edifice is surrounded by a moat and features a flagstone drawbridge, vaulted entrance and portcullis. Within, visitors can find restored furnishings, explore the ruined hall and admire the chapel's decorative murals.

Venturing back outside, the 14 acres of gardens encompass well pools, rare plants and flower displays. Guests can observe the greenery from viewing platforms, spot wildlife such as swans or stop by an arboretum, home to a ten-metre dragon fashioned out of willow. The Bishop's Table serves refreshments, and there are plenty of picnic spots scattered around. The venue regularly puts on guided tours, and organises seasonal events such as plant fairs, historical re-enactments and theatrical performances.

Well worth taking the guided tour as very informative. Unfortunately, the gardens were closed as it was very windy and there are lots of large trees. What could be seen of the gardens were very nice and would go back to see the rest of them.

Everyone has different thoughts. There wasn't much to see in the palace the gardens were nice but it didn't need a guide
