From Our Editors

First established in Soho in 1926, Patisserie Valerie follows artisanal baking traditions brought to London by Belgian-born Madam Valerie, whose mission was to introduce continental patisserie to the English. Now boasting over 120 venues nationwide, the company adorns its cafes with the 1950s-inspired decor and serves up an array of freshly-made cakes, craft pastries, breakfasts, lunches, coffees and loose-leaf teas. Their specialities include meticulously-crafted croissants and viennoiseries, as well as homemade Italian-style gelato.

The tea was lovely, varied and plentiful with free refills on tea and coffee. The staff were pleasant and attentive and service was excellent.

Very surprised at the cafe. We went in about 1pm and they didn’t have the cakes in for the afternoon tea. It was a Saturday and we had gone to an event at Event City. We were offered an alternative of the larger cakes. Staff were very apologetic. I think short staffed also. Didn’t feel like we had an afternoon tea experience though. No tablecloth or cloth serviettes. Hasn’t put me off going but usually go to Bury

Very friendly speedy service well worth the money. There was too much to eat so they bagged it if for us to take home. Would highly recommend the Bury, Manchester Branch

We went for afternoon tea - sandwiches and quiche were very stable and dry. The cake and tea was delicious - won't bother with the afternoon tea again and just go for a cake and tea treat instead.

We called in the morning to check it was ok to use vouchers. They said absolutely fine and no need to book. When we arrived they said they had ran out of afternoon tea and come back in half an hour. When we went back it was a different person who said they had afternoon tea left for just one person. Also we could see other people eating afternoon tea when we had been sent away. This was two wheelchair users and their PAs so they were restricted on time. In the end they agreed to let us stay. Very disappointed. What was supposed to be a special birthday gift was ruined by their lack of consideration.

I had booked an afternoon tea with prosecco for my daughter to celebrate and upon arrival she was informed that they had run out of prosecco. This was at the Trafford Centre. Surely a member of staff could have gone to M & S to obtain more prosecco for the customers. Hannah was offered a slice of cake to take home as compensation. :( Tut Tut....... No good customer care.
