From Our Editors

The grandeur of Melville Castle is owed to William Playfair, the famous Scottish architect who designed the building in 1791. Remaining in the hands of the powerful Dundas family until the mid-20th century, the castle has now been restored and is available to hire for weddings and events.

We must have caught the staff on a good day, no complaints or food, maybe a wee bit cold.

Setting was lovely, staff were excellent but not the best afternoon tea we've had.

Very disappointed with the service. Staff were unfriendly and did not pay much attention to us. I felt like I was the least important person there. We did not get our Yorkshire pudding despite it being on the menu and not receiving any apologies for it. The bill was mixed up with the next table, we brought to the attention of the staff but we were left to sort this ourselves. On the upside, the food did taste good.

Sparkling wine was very sweet. Sandwiches were lovely. Cakes were a bit disappointing as they didn't appear to be homemade or fresh. Staff were very pleasant and helpful though.

Been many time for lunch using the vouchers. Friendly service always time for a chat. The haddock stovies are awesome. The chef even told me his secret for the perfect poached egg! Go along and enjoy and have a walk afterwards in their beautiful grounds.
