Hard to reach anyone before arriving at Reception by phone to ask questions about our visit. Unpleasant smell (like a wet dog) at lunch, very of putting throughout meal. Both main courses my wife chose (Haddock & Chips/ Sunday Roast) were not available even although the place was quiet. Glasses of drinking water offered were undrinkable as tasted of chlorine? Dessert was not as described on the menu - dark chocolate brownie, winter berry coulis and double cream was brownie, chocolate sauce and ice cream. The waiter was very pleasant, however, when ready to leave and pay for our drinks, no-one was available. We also couldn't complain about the dessert for the same reason. We waited 5 minutes and went to main reception to pay. In the evening, when showering, the material shower curtain when wet emitted an extremely strong smell of cigarettes and we had to keep the door closed to keep the smell from the bedroom. It was very obvious that the bathroom had been used for smoking. Had it not been late at night and unpacked, I would have asked to be moved room. No heating on arrival in the room, all radiators off and window open (in January)! We had to ask a passing cleaner for a plug in heater to get some heat in the room. Also, no hairdryer and very dusty lights in the room. At breakfast; no freshly prepared fruit available, tangerine in the fruit bowl was mouldy, had to ask for toast and was brought one slice each, on a half empty toast rack. No offer of refill for tea/ coffee as no one was available to ask.
