What You'll Get
Inhabiting the old Lady Victoria Colliery at Newtongrange, the National Mining Museum seeks to give visitors a sense of life in and around Scotland’s coal-mining communities. Families can learn everything from miners’ daily routines to the prehistoric creation of coal, as well as the various methods used to extract coal from the ground. The site also features regular guided tours of the Pithead led by former miners, aiming to convey the noise and intense atmosphere of a working coal pit. A cafe and children’s soft-play area are also available for visitors, and the museum is open seven days a week.
