From Our Editors

Overlooking Scarbourgh's South Bay and the harbour, Britannia Grand Hotel sits close by to the town's infamous seaside attractions. Over 400 rooms offer a space for guests to rest their heads, with standard, sea view and city rooms among those available. Nibbles and more substantial meals can be purchased in one of two on-site restaurants, cafe or ballroom bar, with the latter also offering regular live entertainment and a dance floor.

Public areas were not to a good standard and carpets ill fitting which could cause a sever accident. Bedroom was on top floor (6th) and the window looked out onto a wall and the area underneath was dirty with old bird eggs and cigarette ends. Wallpaper was coming off walls and plaster was damp and peeling off. Room was not clean. The meals were not to a good standard and the meat in the carvery was overcooked and shrivelled up. Vegetables were obviously not fresh and were overcooked.

One of the worst experiences of my life.. Booked a few days away via the Groupon offer booked a family room as we had 2 adults 1 child and 1 newborn requested a lower floor and when we turned up we were given the top floor smallest room possible with 2 single beds in. Was then advised I should have read the small print on Groupon. Was moved rooms the next day. Food was cheap and vile and there was not 1 clean peice of crockery, glass or cup in the place. Absolutely no health and safety for the children no windows have locks regardless of the height. Bedroom furniture decrapid and hanging off the walls. Would avoid it like the plague. Awaiting refund from Britannia but apparently it's very tricky when booked via Groupon to arrange despite britannia hotels taking the money directly. Terrible shame as the building is absolutely stunning.

Room we were put in was small and pokey and even though when booking I had asked to be near the lift or facilities it was as far away as they could possibly get us without being on the car park. The curtains could not be closed so daylight constantly. From 6am each morning the water pipes made an awful din waking us up. The facilities we were told about on arrival were NOT available i.e coffee lounge closed, bars closed at 10.30 - 11pm even when seating area full of customers. Tea making facilities in the room pitiful 2 tea bags, 2 sachets of coffee, 2 milk was the allowance for the day and when you ask of any more milk we were told to see reception even though they had a boxful on their cart. We did not feel we could ask th reception stsff who had seemed quite surly and frankly rude when we checked in. Awful place would NOT recommend a stay
