From Our Editors

Built after the Battle of Hastings in 1066, the Lewes Castle is a historical site supported by the Sussex Archaeological Society. The castle has panoramic views from the river to the coast, and the on-site museum has a collection of archaeological artefacts. Guests can watch a 3D movie which tells the history of the site, or pay a visit to the Anne of Cleves House Museum.

This is a beautiful castle and you can climb right to the top. Steps are not too steep for older people. A great view over Lewes.

Lewes castle and Anne of Cleeves museum were both good but very disappointed with the cafe experience. The groupon deal included a drink and cake but we were only allowed to choose items on the right of the counter (cake not included, only a scone, crumpet or tiny cookie).

A nice way to spend a couple of hours. Helpful and friendly staff. Even met Henry VIII or was that hubby dressed up at Anne of Cleeves house. Good value on Groupon wouldn't want to pay the full price.

A great voyage of discovery of the town of Lewes. It's an amazingly historic town and the castle and Anne of Cleeves house covers some important parts of the history. The only problem is the parking in Lewes is not great or very long length so a decent trip may entail reparking. Otherwise a magical and inspiring day.

Castle was interesting, but not suitable for young children or people with walking problems.
