Voted the Venue of the Year in the Parliamentary Jazz awards Hideaway features jazz, swing, soul and blues music. They show both established artists along with newcomers. They also play host to many up-and-coming stand-up comedians that are currently performing around London. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid back due to the decor of the club meaning live music can be enjoyed whilst having a drink at the bar or over a meal. The sound of jazz, soul and blues can be heard in the newly opened Jazz Cafe on Streatham's High Road. Food, coffee and wine are served all day, seven days a week (with last food orders at 10 p.m.). Hideaway offer jam session and jazz workshops on a Monday evening. Musicians can turn up when they please (it does not need to be every week) and the aim is to improve both solo and group skills with a focus on learning to improvise melodies. Time is spent working on timing, solos and how to start and end pieces. All standards are allowed as long as there is a basic understanding of the instrument being played. The venue also offers itself for private hire and is ideal for groups of between 100 and 120 people on weekends (and some week nights). The chefs can prepare a range of food for the event, from canapés to a buffet and live music or a DJ can be catered for.
