From Our Editors

Founded by Kyoichi Kai from the Zuma and Arts Club, Kouzu is a Japanese restaurant housed within an elegant Grade II listed building erected in the 1850s. With its palatial entrance looking straight at Goring Hotel and a dining area occupying three levels, Kouzu aims to turn Japanese cuisine into an opportunity for everything from a casual meeting to private dining. In 2015 Kouzu became the UK winner of Global Sushi Challenge and had its sommelier, Miguel A. Hernandez, named Sake Sommelier of the Year.

We spent alovely afternoon at Kouzou. The ambience of the restaurant is amazing, also the selection of snacks and sweet bites. The staff was attentive and very efficient.

Great restaurant! Great service! The savoury platters were not particularly inventive but very fresh and tasty. A great selection of the cakes. I wish it was more Japanese but other than that they were very good, especially ones with coconut. I would love to come back for a proper meal rather than the afternoon tea.

We were given a terrific table and the food was beautifully presented. A wonderful experience for us, calming and comforting off the busy area of Victoria. We had the delicious and different Japanese high tea after visiting an exhibition at nearby Buckingham Palace. We also went back later. Request seating upstairs in the evening especially it is beautifully lit and the sushi is wonderful.

Went for the Japanese afternoon tea. Unfortunately you can only order one tea per couple to share. Only a plate of 7-9 pieces of sushi then another plate with Katsu and other small items. Desert was great, get to sample small deserts. The sushi itself was fresh and very tasty, just not enough of it. As a groupon voucher it was ok, I asked if this is what you'd get if you paid a full £25 each person and the waiter who was a little cold with an air of arrogance told me that each sushi piece we just had was at least £4 per sushi.....I'm a little confused....I think I'll rather spend my money on something a little bit more up market if theyre going to be charging that much money for one piece of sushi. Service wasn't even that great! All in all, OK to experience it as a groupon voucher but wouldn't go back.
