From Our Editors

A permanent feature on London Thames Embankment since 1974, R.S. Hispaniola invites guests aboard for a la carte dining, evening drinks and intimate parties. Formerly named the Maid of Ashton, the ship was originally launched in 1953 and had a 20-year career carrying passengers around Scotland. Today, the Hispaniola features iconic city views of the London Eye, Hungerford Bridge and Jubilee Gardens, and boasts a restaurant and bar, plus a sun deck for when the sun makes an appearance. Private events, parties and weddings also take place on the deck, with a string quartet or jazz pianist on hand to provide music to dine to.

Great venue and great views of London but afternoon tea wasn't the greatest. The bread from the sandwiches were stale.

Don't take the offer. I've been to many afternoon teas and this was the worst I have experienced.

Tip to those with dietary requirements: do call before or inform them as you make the booking that you require gluten/dairy free, etc. I asked for no butter, Mayo, salmon or egg and on the day was presented with 6 sandwiches all filled with butter and yellow pepper. Each one the same. I explained it was lined thick with butter and they convinced me it was hummus. Now I'm a massive hummus lover; I know the difference. So just be v.e.r.y c.l.e.a.r with your preferences. Thanks for the free prosecco though, as an apology once they finally realised I couldn't eat what I paid for *thumbs up*

The tea was delicious and staff friendly. However, when I booked it had not been explained that we would have to walk to another pier for the cruise. I am disabled and the extra walking involved caused me considerable pain for some time afterwards. I thought that the Hispaniola was the cruise boat and was most disappointed when it did not move! I feel that the description of the offer was misleading.
