As we were the only patrons in the restaurant the waiter/maitre'D decided that he should over chat to us which we found intrusive. He kept on apologising that they were not expecting any patrons and that the chef had only come in to prepare misen plus - that is not our problem. The chef couldn't cook or prepare even a salad properly dressed. Don't bother Groupon with keeping this restaurant on your books. It is also only open for dinner and shut on Sunday.

Please make sure it is clear next time that the set menu is what is being used. This was not stipulated.

Many choices had run out, due to a very busy previous night.

Staff were lovely but service was poor the night we went. Ordered wine 3 times before it arrived (25 mins), had to request wine list, twice. Then the bill, again twice. Apologetic to errors but would not have been happy to pay full price on this occasion.

Lovely food but to return for a lunch I would prefer a lighter lunch menu. Great choice on menu. Good service.

We LOVED our meal... so much so in fact that we came back again and paid full price. We did just have one issue which is the height of the lights over the tables. They are right at eye level. When sat at the table one is staring straight at the bulb and it is very strenuous on the eye. I know it seems like a small point but it really was quite annoying and took away from what was otherwise a wonderful experience

the value for money aspect needs to be addressed as chez bruce offers a different league in this regard. we worked out it would have cost us around £200 for 4 of us if we had not used the voucher. and that was drinking house wine and a few beers plus side dishes that were not included to complete the dining experience on the group on. £50 a head we thought was rather expensive. as this is a local restaurant its something we would frequent if it offered better value and we could go there for an unplanned casual lunch or dinner during the week. we thought charging £4 (? or so) for sides of beans etc was a way if increasing the price of the plate and we would prefer a complete plate and price as this makes the menu price more transparent the staff were really polite and friendly and very eager to please . having said that we think the service was overly formal and so the overall experience was not very relaxed - chez bruce up the road is already doing that only better. maybe this will change with time as the staff get used to the people and their roles? the restaurant only had one other table and the time it took a long time to bring us our drinks. we all felt it a long time between drink service considering the place was almost empty. again, we thought this was something that perhaps would improve as staff got used to their roles. the decor details needs addressing - we went to the same restaurant for 20 years before it moved next door. the decor has been refurbished but sorry to observe it is with a poor finish and fittings e.g. toilets, fabrics to cover the seats and light fittings. though overall the restaurant looks pleasant , just perhaps not in keeping with the quality of the food. the overhead lights are placed right in the eye of the diner and are blinding and made for difficult communication with people on the other side of the table. we think uplighting is preferable when dining e.g. candles or lamps to soften the space. i personally ordered prawns and wished i had not as they were not fresh (not rotten necessairly but pappy instead of firm). overall our table really enjoyed the food. the bottom line was it was too expensive for us and a bit uptight (but only in a way of being too eager to please, unless we are mistaken and there is an elite ideal and agenda?)
