From Our Editors

Situated just outside Derby, Risley Hall Hotel and Spa sits within 10 acres of landscaped grounds, offering a peaceful, rural retreat. The hotel features 16 individually decorated rooms and 19 suites, with guests able to tuck in to fine cuisine and drinks at the on-site restaurant, cocktail bar and drawing room. Historical features abound within the 16th century Baronial Hall, popular with weddings thanks to its romantic high rafted ceiling and mullioned windows. A spa, featuring a mini gym, indoor pool and a jacuzzi, can also be found hidden within the hotel’s grounds.

Called to enquire place and eating area was disabled friendly/ accessible to which I was informed yes! Got there and there was a step to get to eating area for afternoon tea, to which we were told well u can eat in here ( dark bar area) which had a low coffee table to eat off !! Said I wasn't happy that I had called to enquire about facilities ( no apologies from staff) they did bring in a table!!! There was a dining room with access which would have been nicer and brighter to eat in but never offered this!! When food came it was ok nothing to shout about ! When asked to make a complaint that I wasn't happy the staff couldn't have careless again no sorry!! I had planned this outing for my mum who feels as a disabled person that going out is too much hassle for everyone and everything isn't as easy for her as an abled body person hence why I had tried to prevent her feeling this way - so as U can imagine upon arrival finding that what I had been informed via the phone call was not correct and made her feel exactly the way I didn't want her too !!! To an abled bodied person I can see why just bringing a table over to a different area doesn't seem much but to someone who isn't abled body ( who can see everyone else enjoying there afternoon tea in a nice warm sunny area)it's just another hassle that didn't need to be delt with ( also an embarrassment that furniture needed to be rearranged) We overheard another guest commenting on there stay and let's say the venue has a long way to go to get anywhere near 3 star!!! Oh and the disabled toilets what a joke !!! U have to get out of a wheelchair to be able to close the disabled toilet door unless u want an audience!! Whilst I appreciate it may be a listed building your staff need to be informed it's not that disabled friendly to avoid upset and I'm afraid that's exactly what it caused to my mum of been "made a show of" rather than just been a mum and daughter enjoying an afternoon tea !

The food was lovely but the service was poor didn't come and see if everything was ok or if we needed anything, had to go looking for someone to get more drinks ,and the the room was cold , and for such a top hotel thought the toilets was bad really need up grade and wasn't that clean think cleaning staff needs to clean the rest not just the toilets ,if I left my clients homes like that I would be out of work ,glad I didn't pay full price sorry but that's how I feel and up set as I did it for my mum after her loss to cheer her up .
