From Our Editors

Located a short drive from the village of Stoke Mandeville, The Bucks Goat Centre and Animal Farm provides a place for both children and adults to meet and greet a host of friendly creatures, every day of the week. The farm hosts special events throughout the year, including the Easter-time handling of baby animals such as chicks, lambs and calfs. While young visitors burn off steam in the playground area, guests of all ages can recharge flagging energy at the on-site Tea Cup Cafe, which serves a range of snacks and refreshments.

Signage poor ~ wasn't sure what we were looking at sometimes. Place looks really tired and in need of work. Be good to have some interactive sessions for young children. No play area or very limited.

The staff were very welcoming and the cafe is quite cosy. However, everything at the centre seems a little run down. There was a wooden play house that had fallen over and much of the writing on the walls referred to how the centre used to be laid out (eg the petting area). It was very muddy (not the centre's fault!) which meant squelching through mud to see many of the outside animals. Some of the indoor pens seemed quite dirty. It doesn't take long to get around and if we had paid full price I would not have felt it was value for money. It would be nice to see the pens looking a little cleaner and cosier with lots more hay etc.

Albeit we had a lot of rain recently, extremely muddy. My 2 year old grandson slipped about in the mud and ended up in a large puddle covered in mud and boots full of water. Advised a lot of the animals bite - is that suitable as a standard for a centre that attracts children? Why sell food to feed them then? Said grandson then got nipped by a pig. Not many animals to see. My 7 year old grandaughter said it was the worst day of her life!

I went with my two nieces who have special needs, so the fact that it was practically empty worked ok for them. However, we felt the farm was very run down. My niece managed to get through a piece of broken fencing and into a pen. Luckily there wasn't anything in it but the wire could have been dangerous. Play equipment was also dangerous. A broken ladder attached to one bit. We had a problem with the vouchers. I paid for a family ticket which said £8. When I was told it should have been £19.50 and that was a reduced price, I was shocked. Maybe things are different in the summer, I don't know.

Travelled a long way after buying a ticket on Groupon (believed I was getting a 54% discount!!) only to find admission was exactly the same price if I had paid on the door. Had I realised it was not a real bargain (my expectations were high) I would probably not have bothered to travel so far.
