It is not an hotel but a pub with rooms above so expect noise and rowdy behaviour in the street outside. Parking is a problem if they are full as they have 19 rooms but only 13 spaces in the car park which is across the main road away from the pub. Reception were not helpful and only directed me to a parking bay outside that was for disabled drivers. Easiest access to the hotel if you have bags and dogs is from the back. I could not get in the car park and had to park in a public car park some distance from the hotel. As I came in the back entrance there was a sign saying B & B from £50!!!!!!
We were in room 8, double, on the 2nd floor. Space was cramped and you hit the small TV on the wall as you went round the foot of the bed. Bathroom floor was dirty; about time the lino was renewed. The basin taps dripped and the soap dispenser was broken. I could not get the wifi but maybe my phone is too old. I was told it was because it is an old building but should get it in the bar!
On the plus side the room/bathroom was warm and tea/coffee facilities provided. My main reason for choosing this place was the fact that they allowed dogs for a surcharge of £10 per dog. Housekeeping staff were very pleasant and helpful as were the dining staff.
Food varied depending on what you ordered. The evening meal of starter and main had to be picked from a special menu printed out for the Groupon visitors. I had Mackeral fillet in a sauce for my starter which was superb. The steak pie and veg was a big portion but the pie was too salty. For breakfast there was plenty of choice including cooked food. I was very surprised at the extent of the menu and chose the egg benedict which unfortunately was cold and hard but the scrambled egg was good.
Considering the voucher said the original price was £153.80 I was not at all pleased especially after seeing one could get B & B for £50. The evening meal was only £16. And my Invoice gave the cost as: 30-Mar-19 Room 08 (Pondhu) Double room-Standard-Ensuite £37.00 20.00% £7.40 £44.40.
I did complain on checkout but was told "what did I expect for a Groupon and somewhere in town"! I should complain to Groupon about the price.
