From Our Editors

Formed in 1847 following the purchase of the house where the author of Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet was born, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is devoted to preserving the playwright's legacy and celebrating all things Shakespearean. Aside from the house where Shakespeare spent his youth, visitors can also see his mother's farm, his wife Anne Hathaway's cottage, and the house where his daughter lived with her husband. The organisation's vaults contain over a million documents, 55,000 books and 12,000 museum objects, as well as the Royal Shakespeare Company’s archive of theatre records. The Trust is the headquarters of International Shakespeare Association, devoted to spreading knowledge about the writer's work throughout the world, and offers formal and informal education programmes.

Visited Mary Arden's house. There is something for all ages at this site. Tudor household and farm related activities and demonstrations throughout the day. Plan to spend the whole day to make tge most if it and either eat in the café or take a picnic . easily accessible by train.

All the sites visited were excellent with plenty of of facts and information. What really makes then though are the staff / actors, they are brilliant and give you a real insight into the history of the places and tudor life.

I really enjoyed the 3 out of the 5 houses in Stratford. Good value for my money, and of course historical value. It was the celebrations of 400 years death of William Shakespeare, so I was very happy that day. Also , Stratford is a lovely place, and I never tire of going there.

it was in October 2012 we had a look around Ann Hathaway’s cottage and very nice it was too. But the garden of the house looked very sad and could have done with a bit of a tidy?
