From Our Editors

Coldharbour Mill is a wool-spinning mill opened in 1799. The old Mill, now museum, still has the original machinery and uses the original methods. Guests can enjoy a tour and can learn about the history of South West's textile industry. There is an on-site shop and picnic area.

Being members of a local Photographic Club we purchased the Special Event tickets so we could visit the Mill with the Steam Boiler and Engines fired up. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable on both of the tours, which was included in the price. After the tours we were able to go back through the Mill again at our leisure which gave us ample time to take photographs and talk to the staff looking after each machine. With the Steam Engines running this is a lovely place to visit. There is a cafe, which I believe is run by a third party, and although basic the food is adequate and reasonably priced.

We've been to Coldharbour Mill several times, but this is the first time on a 'steaming day'. It really makes all the difference to have the sounds and smells as well as the sights of the machinery. Well worth paying extra to go on one of these special days. Only negative is that the Waterside Cafe is very basis so don't expect to get fancy food on your visit, although the setting is excellent.

Lovely couple of hours spent here my companion loved it as it was bought as a treat because of his interest in the machinery and mechanics of it all. It was really nice as it wasn't commercialised and still had its authentic charm. Our guide explained the working and equipment in a way that was easily understood by all. Very interesting look into the past.

Very interesting tour and you can wander about on your own to explore the mill. Knowledgeable staff and pleasant location. Had a very nice snack in the cafe.

A very interesting tour showing how the wool is treated from the sheep to the woollen skeins sold in the shop. The machinery is turned on and on special days the engines are fired for a steam up.Worth a visit.

It was a most interesting visit, especially as we went on a day when the steam engine was fired up. The staff were friendly, helpful and very enthusiastic. The Mill, originally water powered, then steam powered and finally driven by electricity is an excellent, living example of British industrial development.

Enjoyed our time there, wouldn't have paid full price so thank you Groupon! Top tip-go on a steam day as the machines were running.
