From Our Editors

Coldharbour Mill is a wool-spinning mill opened in 1799. The old Mill, now museum, still has the original machinery and uses the original methods. Guests can enjoy a tour and can learn about the history of South West's textile industry. There is an on-site shop and picnic area.

It would be helpful if they improved their signage. Also the map they give you needs to state it is only for inside the mill, you have to get there first! Again, to get the best from the tour they should tell you to start in the basement, as this makes the other floors make much more sense.

We had a brilliant tour of the mill with Ian. His knowledge was excellent and his enthusiasm was great. We were lucky enough to buy some of the Devon Dress Tartan which has now been turned into a waistcoat

It was very depressing and miserable going around the mill ,whilst the lady in the shop was lovely and was going out of her way to explain what the wool looks like from start to finish.

The tour was very informative, and the Mill gave us a glimpse into our industrial heritage which was fascinating, and seeing the machinery working was amazing. Probably not a place to visit with small children but great for school children.

A human guide would have made the experience more enjoyable. Also if I had been told to start on the basement floor and worked my way up the other floors. This would have made more sense. I do understand that the Mill is run by volunteers and not always easy. For the entrance fee charged there should be more direction. However, I recommend anyone to go on one of their Steam Days as I understand you can actually see things working and there is a human guide?
