From Our Editors

Dating back to the 10th century, Avington Park is a Grade I-listed private home with grounds bordering the River Itchen. Guided tours take in many of the Georgian manor's highlights, including the library, conservatory and ballroom, while there's also a tea bar on-site for guests to replenish energy levels. The building is also a popular site for filming locations.

Amazing private house still lived in by the owner and other residents. Very relaxed atmosphere seeing parts open to the public. Wonderful setting for tea overlooking the grounds where you can wander freely. An enjoyable afternoon.

The guide gave a really stimulating history of the house and its owners since it was built. The cream tea afterwards was very tasty and the staff cheerful and friendly. Unfortunately it rained so we could not walk around the grounds as we wished to. However, while we waited for our tour to start we did manage to visit the small church. Very I teresing and definitely worth a visit .

We had a beautiful afternoon there. The guided tour was excellent and the tea consisted of one scone, cream and jam and a choice of teas.
