From Our Editors

Dating back to the 10th century, Avington Park is a Grade I-listed private home with grounds bordering the River Itchen. Guided tours take in many of the Georgian manor's highlights, including the library, conservatory and ballroom, while there's also a tea bar on-site for guests to replenish energy levels. The building is also a popular site for filming locations.

Amazing tour. Beautiful grounds and fabulous rooms. Tour guide definitely made the tour. You could tell that she loved what she did and was passionate about the history. Lovely sitting in the orangery for tea and scones. Definitely recommend a visit

Beautiful place, lovely house and wonderful gardens. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant nothing was too much trouble and answered all sorts of questions on the tour. We had scones, cream and jam(one scone each) also butter and a pot of tea or coffee in the Orangery very pleasant but there were additional cakes to be purchased. We loved the whole experience!

Very knowledgeable tour guide and knew the family well and so get a feel of the real history of the place which is fairly unique. Will only see a few rooms but interesting history. Cream tea was a bit disjointed on service and area in which had to collect tea wasn't the best set up - they used an urn for hot water which I don't believe produces such a nice cup of tea, although scone was homemade - but they were very friendly and think they could make more of it than they do. Would have paid more if had option for afternoon tea. For the cost well worth a visit and the grounds would be lovely to walk round if nice day.

The tour gives a full history of the house. There is the local church to visit and home made scones with the cream tea.

Lovely place with a very interesting history, we very much enjoyed our guided tour. Grounds not as large as we expected from seeing the aerial photo so no exploratory walk before going inside.
