Nestled in the Winter Valley in the heart of the Lake District, The Brown Horse Inn is surrounded by rolling hills and verdant meadows, home to wildlife including badgers, roe deer and buzzards. The nooks and crannies of the valley are open for exploration, from the Winster Valley Brewery to the medieval Sizergh Castle, a 19-minute drive away. An eight-minute drive away is the tranquil Lake Windermere, where watersports such as canoeing, waterskiing and sailing can all be undertaken. The hotel boasts nine bedrooms, four of which have recently been refurbished. The rooms fuse together contemporary furnishings with the historic charm of the inn. Solid oak beds and exposed beams are juxtaposed with flat screen TVs and en suite facilities. Rustic tables, fires and overhead beams dot the Michelin-rated restaurant, which uses locally sourced ingredients and home-grown vegetables. A wide selection of wines and ales are also available. Guests can take time to relax in the Low Wood Bay Spa Hotel, a 14 minute drive away from the Brown Horse Inn. Facilities include a 50-foot indoor pool and a gym, while a roster of beauty treatments are available for a surcharge.
