Summer Late Night Opening

Spend a long and pleasant summer evening visiting a whole host of exotic animals at the Colchester Zoo. As the afternoon gives way to the evening a special timetable of events will compliment the cooler temperatures, which often encourage animals like red pandas, aardvarks, wolves and Amur tigers to come out and play. A selection of special displays and events will take place from 5pm.

The Zoo

Creatures of the world are brought together in all shapes and sizes, housed across 60 acres of scenic parkland and lakes. With over 270 species, there’s areas for bears, aardvarks, grey wolves, elephants, Komodo dragons and many others. Big cats such as leopards, cheetahs, tigers and lions are also among the animals at Colchester Zoo, as well as orangutans. Visitors are offered opportunities to get involved with feeding the elephants and giraffes themselves and there are up to 50 displays to enjoy. They can even walk among some of the animals in the Australian Rainbows Lorikeet enclosure, lemur and wallaby walkthrough areas as well as butterflies.

The zoo has been established for over 50 years and plays an important role in wildlife conservation. Animals from closer to home make an appearance, with farmyard friends such as horses, goats, pigs and chickens, not to mention the llamas and alpacas. There’s more fun to be had over at the Discovery Centre, with plenty of educational activities, and the site also features play areas for kids including the undercover soft play complex Jungle Tumble. Those in search of refreshment will also be able to stop by a number of food outlets.
