The Strokes, Blur and Kylie headline three nights at British Summer Time in Hyde Park; options for tickets to a choice of two dates
Thursday’s BST headline act are none other than The Strokes. Bursting on to the indie rock scene in 2001, the New Yorkers’ debut album, Is This It set a new watermark for all those who followed, with notable hooks as ‘Last Nite’ and ‘New York City Cops’. Playing on London soil for the first time in five years, The Strokes will be supported by recent Grammy award winner, Beck. Blurring the lines that define genres, Beck takes a DIY approach to his music and avoids being pigeon-holed into any one niche by all but reinventing his sound with each new release, of which there have been 12 since his 1994 worldwide hit, ‘Loser’. Joining The Strokes and Beck will be Future Islands, who are sure to perform their stand-out track, ‘Seasons (Waiting On You)’, which has been topping ‘Track of 2014’ lists from The Guardian, NME and Spin.
Returning to Hyde Park for their fifth year, Blur will take to the main stage on Saturday night. Attributed with defining the sound of British popular music throughout the 90s and beyond, the lads boast five successive UK number one albums and countless accolades from the likes of NME, the BRIT awards, and the Ivor Novella awards. The high-energy four piece will have the crowd readied for them by Devon electro-pop group Metronomy; synth-garage rockers The Horrors; Afropop troupe Jupiter Bokondi; the two-piece grunge act Drenge; and renowned UK hip-hop pioneer Roots Manuva.
Headlining on the longest day of 2015, megastar songstress Kylie Minogue comes to Hyde Park with support from Grace Jones and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers. Boasting over 70 million record sales worldwide to date, Kylie has chalked up 33 UK Top 10 singles, including seven number ones such as I Should Be So Lucky, Spinning Around and Can’t Get You Out of My Head. Known for her enduring popularity and extravagant live shows, Kylie’s latest collaboration saw her team up with disco legend Giorgio Moroder. Grace Jones and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers will be on-hand to get the crowd warmed up.
