The Charity
FareShare is a unique charity fighting two of the most urgent issues facing the UK today: hunger and food waste. 5.8 million people in the UK live in extreme poverty, struggling to afford everyday essentials like food. Meanwhile, a shocking 3.9 million tonnes of food is wasted every year.
FareShare redistributes good quality in-date food that would otherwise go to waste to 1,711 charities and community groups nationwide who provide vital meals and essential support for disadvantaged and socially excluded people. These charities include homeless shelters, breakfast clubs for children living in poverty, women’s refuges, day centres for older people suffering from isolation, drug rehabilitation centres, veteran’s aid and support groups for families struggling to put food on the table.

In our current economic climate it is challenging to find the funding to provide healthy and nutritious meals, but it is absolutely vital that we do so. FareShare have been our lifeline. By ensuring good food is not wasted and instead reaches those who need it most, FareShare’s work not only benefits the planet but also provides a crucial lifeline for over 82,100 hungry and vulnerable men, women and children every day.
Last year the charity received 6,400 tonnes of food from the food industry and provided enough for over 13 million meals. This is everything from meat, dairy and cupboard staples to fresh fruit and vegetables, which FareShare’s member charities turn into nutritious meals for their clients.
