This was gifted after myself and my husband suffered an unfortunate miscarriage. We were not aware that we were allocated a set time, and apparently we were 10 minutes late due to traffic, which is beyond our control. We travelled 55 minutes to get there as we do not live in the area and the receptionist was rude and blunt, when I tried to explain the purpose of the gift she did not care about our situation. She just bluntly said our treatment slot has been taken and that we could only use the pool and gave us our towels and dressing gowns. She didn't show us where to go despite it being our first time there, we had to ask other people where the dressing rooms are etc. The spa day was meant to include a 25 minute treatment each and a 2 course meal. To be honest we did not enjoy the day at all as from the start the rude receptionist put a damper on it. The whole day felt like a waste of time due to the treatment we received when we were actually looking forward to it.
I have not been in contact until today as you can imagine we have been grieving the loss of our baby and we also lost my husbands mother, so it has been a terrible time recently.
Pleasant experience, restaurant provided excellent service and food, swimming pool is a good size, warm water, was clean during our visit with plenty of clean towels, robes. Massage experience (back and neck) was a different experience for two of us as male masseuse was excellent, professional and pleasant in comparison to massage by female masseuse, who wasn’t really massaging, more like kneading in my opinion.
Lunch is always great at this venue but the spa staff (particularly on reception) are so surly and miserable, I probably won't return. Not sure if it's because we are going with a discount voucher, but they really need some customer service training.
We had the 2 course set lunch. I had cod and my daughter had the spinach ravioli. It was superb and the service was great. The spa itself was good, a little tired looking but sufficient for us to relax and I used the sauna also which was clean and set to a comfortable temperature. The steam room was a bit hot. Good quality robes and towels were provided and the changing rooms were clean and well stocked with smellies. I booked a massage for myself and mini facial for my daughter and were very happy with our treatments. It was great that we could be in the same treatment room. I would use the Spa again. Park opposite in the retail car park as the Crowne Plaza car park is quite expensive for a hotel in the middle of nowhere!
This was really great experience for me and my friend. We came in the middle of the week, so the place was not full. The spa is a very pleasant, clean environment. There is a large pool, a steam room and a very agreeable sauna which was not excessively hot. For me, the best part of the day was an amazing 55min full body massage. My friend enjoyed it very much too. The afternoon tea with bubbly was a lovely ending to the superb day. The food was nice, fresh, the scones were truly perfect. Very nice desserts. I will try to come back again.
Tea was nice but the rest of it was absolutely bloody awful. My friend and I had the poorest massages, we kept asking for harder but they were too namby pamby. My massuse didn't even give me a full body massage, just my back, calves and tummy area! The pool was too busy, not enough areas to sit so we just went home, didn't stay longer to fully enjoy an experience.
Dreadful place, avoid avoid avoid.
Cannot imagine why its had good reviews recently.
Staff couldnt speak english. On arrival, was shown where to go, changed. Pool is nice, shame about the hip hop music, something soothing would have been more fitting. Informed to head back to spa reception for therapists to collect us, was 10 minutes late. Room does not look the brochure. No products on show, asked what she was using, colleague giving husband a massage replied cleanser. Asked if anything was anti aging, what brand, nothing, clearly inexpeienced therapist, just stroked my face, bed hard, was cold, was given thin towel with feet hanging out in open, didnt understand anything I said, asked how long she had worked there, reply was 'yes I am15 years younger than you'. All very basic and had paid for 45 minute treatments, I had my garmin watch on so I could check my heart rate, treatments lasted 32 minutes.
Afternoon tea followed, sandwiches all tased the same, scones were delicious, cakes meh, I ended up with food poisoning either from veggie sandwiches or the little cakes of which i had two, must say didnt taste greta. Verified by gp, week off work and hotel and spa never responded.
Avoid this place like the plague and spend your money elsewhere!
