About This Deal
The Deal
A series of dark, underground passages lie four to six metres below the streets of Exeter, spanning 425 metres. Housing the pipes that transported Exeter's water supply from natural springs outside the city walls, these medieval passages carry their own stories of wars and sieges, plagues and pestilence. Eager explorers can visit the exhibition, learning about the history of these passages from the 14th century onwards, with the help of interactive displays and informative videos. They will then have 25 minutes to delve into underground alleyways and picture the historical happenings for themselves.

The Merchant
The visitors' centre for Exeter's Underground Passages tells the story of their innovation, being the first of their kind to transport of water to the city in this way. Using interactive displays such as a medieval gentleman telling a story, and a high speed video tour of the passages, the exhibition takes guests through the history of Exeter at the time. The Museum is open Tuesday to Friday 11.30am to 5.30pm, Saturday 9.30am to 5.30pm and Sunday 11.30am to 4pm.
