The Hotel
Placed in the capital of Iceland, Hotel City Park invites holidaymakers amid clouds of cosmopolitan culture and scenes of frosty awe, encompassing nature’s most dramatic processes, from black volcanic plains to white, hulking glaciers and heat-spouting geysers.
The rooms feature modern and classic amenities such as Samsung LCD TV. All rooms have bathrooms with a shower.
On-site customers can find a bar. Breakfast is served in the lounge area on the first floor.
Tour Details
Northern Lights Tour
Join us for a mysterious trip, on a dark winter night. Any time from the onset of autumn darkness until the light nights of spring we can witness one of nature’s most spectacular displays; the phenomenon which we call the Northern Lights.
Far from the glow of the city lights, we hunt for the elusive Aurora Borealis – known as the Northern Lights. Together we will search for these magnificent auroras. On a clear night, we may be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the sky in dramatic shapes, colours, patterns and sizes.
The Northern Lights are visible from September through April but can only be seen on a clear night. Therefore, we reserve the right to cancel this tour if the evening sky is heavily clouded or weather conditions are not favourable. A decision is taken daily at 6pm whether the tour will take place or not. All hotels and booking agents in Reykjavik are informed by email about our decision so please contact the front desk of your hotel or the tour desk at hotel Saga, Loftleidir and Hilton to find out whether we will be operating the tour. Before we start this tour we always check the weather forecast around the south western part of Iceland. From experience, we decide where each journey will lead us, for the best possibilities to see the Northern Lights.
Please note: We cannot guarantee sightings even if the tour is operated. In these cases we offer our customers a second tour free of charge.
Please note: Those that join the Northern Lights Mystery tour on 31 December may miss the fireworks in Reykjavik. The Northern Lights tour is a 3- to 5-hour tour and we cannot guarantee that we will be back in Reykjavik before midnight. If you do not want to miss the fireworks, please do not book this tour for 31 December!
Meeting/ pick-up point: Bus terminal at Laekjartorg, Hafnarstraeti 20, in Reykjavik centre. Customers must be at the meeting point 30 min before the departure of the tour. If customers want to be picked up at the hotel (in Reykjavik only) they must call 24 hours before in order to reconfirm pick up time. Duration: Between 3 to 5 hours. Start/opening time: Available from Sep 15 to Mar 31 daily at 8pm and from Apr 1 to Apr 15 daily at 9pm. Languages: English.
Whale Watching Tour
Winter whale watching gives you a whole new experience and adventure than our summer tours. Each year continues to surprise us with the wildlife it offers. Herring and capelin being the main prey available attracting humpback whales, killer whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises to our shores. The winter low lying sun is also something not to be missed, as it casts a warm glow over the white-capped mountains and to breathe in the winters fresh, crisp air is just incredible.
The weather and thus sea conditions can be very challenging during the winter months; we adapt by moving our vessels to harbours of more sheltered areas situated around the Reykjanes peninsula and transport our passengers there free of charge from our base in the Old harbour. Our experience and flexibility allows for a more comfortable and reliable winter whale watching adventure.
Start/opening time: January to March and November to December. Duration: Between 3.5 and 5 hours Languages: English. Others: As the weather in Iceland can be quite unpredictable we sometimes move our boats to different locations for a more pleasant cruise. Going from other harbours means that we need to take a coach that can be anywhere from 20-60 minutes one way. Under these circumstances we can expect the tour to run anywhere between 3-5 hours. For a more enjoyable cruise this tour is weather dependent.
Golden Circle Tour
This popular excursion introduces you to some of the best known historical sites and natural phenomena in Iceland. We start by visiting Nesjavellir, a high temperature geothermal area in the scenic landscape of Lake Þingvallavatn. From there we go to the Þingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was established in the year 930 AD. Þingvellir is geologically remarkable and the tectonic plate boundaries form a breathtaking scenery.
We continue to the beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, where we can walk so close to the edge that we might feel the mist of the glacial water on our faces. Our lunch break is usually at the Gullfoss Cafe. Sometimes we also stop for lunch at the Information Center at the geothermal area around Geysir. From there we journey towards the geothermal area around the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur. We proceed to Skálholt church, the ancient seat of the Icelandic bishops. From there we travel towards Hveragerði, a small and charming horticultural village.

Friday departures are guided in English and Scandinavian all year round. Due to weather and road conditions we cannot guarantee visits to Nesjavellir in the winter season.
Blue Lagoon Transfers
Set among an amazing natural environment of lava fields and snow capped mountains, no trip to Iceland would be complete without a visit to the unique Blue Lagoon geothermal spa! Set in a lava field south of Reykjavik and surrounded by snow capped mountains, Blue Lagoon is an inimitable geothermal spa with water temperatures of 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit all year round. The water contains mineral salts, silica and blue green algae that help to cleanse and exfoliate the skin, leaving it feeling nourished and revitalised. Bathing in this dreamlike environment is an experience not to be missed and is sure to leave you feeling relaxed and revitalised.
Also on site is a geothermal sauna, spa offering a wide range of massages and treatments, shop selling unique skin care products, and an a-la carte restaurant. You are also free to wander round the whole grounds and absorb the Blue lagoon’s spectacular setting. There is a choice of departures from the Blue Lagoon back to Reykjavík: 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, 13:15, 14:15, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15, 18:15, 19:15, 21:15, 22:15, or airport transfers. Please inform the bus driver on your way to the Blue Lagoon which departure you would like to take after visiting the Blue Lagoon.
