Set back from the main road at the end of a peaceful close in the pretty village of Gunthorpe, this sustainable chalet has been popular with anglers all over the country for more than three decades. The lake was formed when gravel was dug to build the original Gunthorpe Bridge in 1875, and today it’s a popular 21-peg property with several varieties of coarse fish, including carp. All of this is free to enjoy for glamping guests.

The smart ensuite accommodation on offer here is equally enticing, with a comfy double bed, well-equipped kitchen, TV, bedding, and towels all coming as standard. Moving outside, there’s a spacious decking area with seating where you can soak up the peaceful atmosphere, and – arguably best of all – you have access to a private luxury hot tub just for the two of you.

Away from the base, you can take a stroll down to the village’s handful of pubs and award-winning restaurants in just a few minutes, or drive a couple of miles north to Lowdham, where there are food shops and more eateries.
