Sitting on the edge of the Howardian Hills, The Worsley Arms Hotel is nestled into the quaint Yorkshire village of Hovingham. Home to ancient buildings, the village is a haven for ardent history lovers, as well as for those looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat. Guests can reach the city of York within a 30-minute drive, where cobbled streets and boutique shops await exploration. Other main attractions of interest include the York Minster, the 13th century Clifford’s Tower and the JORVIK Viking Centre.

Slightly further afield, guests can venture out to the coastal town of Scarborough, as well as the North York Moors National Park. Outdoor activities to suit all fitness levels abound in the Moors, from cycling trails to leisurely strolls and birdwatching opportunities.

• Each of the individually decorated rooms vary in size and shape, but are typically furnished with a TV, hairdryer, radio and en-suite facilities. Guests can upgrade to a king-size room for a £10 surcharge.

• There are a number of dining opportunities available on-site, from the main restaurant to the informal Cricketers Bar. Local produce is used by kitchen staff wherever possible, with menus regularly changing to keep things interesting.

• Both children and dogs are welcome to join guests on their stay at the hotel. Two children between the age of 3 and 16 years can stay for a £20 per person per night surcharge, while up to two pets are allowed for a surcharge of £7 each. Additional extras include a late midday check-out for a £20 surcharge.

Receiving a 4/5 star average on TripAdvisor, The Worsley Arms Hotel is also a recipient of a Certificate of Excellence 2014. The cosy open fires, spacious rooms and delicious restaurant meals were repeatedly singled out for praise. Elsewhere, the hotel has amassed over 450 likes on Facebook.
