Overlooking the Golden Horn, the Sultanahmet Quarter is one of the oldest parts of Istanbul, known for its historical structures which contrast the contemporary architecture surrounding the area. Located on the edge of Sultanahmet square, Topkapi Palace, the imperial enclave of the Ottoman emperors, houses a weaponry display as well as Islamic and Christian relics. After a visit to the Blue Mosque with its six minarets and sweeping architecture, travellers can wander through the Egyptian Spice Bazaar and the Grand Bazaar’s labyrinth of shops, where traditional baklava and halva can be sampled. Istanbul has a Mediterranean climate with an average relative humidity of 76%. In the springtime, temperatures reach 15°C to 25°C, but it may also rain in March, while summers are warm with temperatures going up to 30°C. Autumn is the longest season with clear blue skies most of the time, but in September visitors may experience some overcast days.
