The Cavehouse

Set within the Andalusian village of Galera, Benaguacil is a traditional cave house combining traditional features with an enviable sunny climate. Galera, a conservation village and one of the region’s most celebrated cave towns, provides a space for guests to take a dip in the municipal open-air pool, have a wander round the shops, or just absorb the picturesque views. Steeped in thousands of years of history, Galera is a criss-cross of landscapes, harbouring rivers, rolling valleys and various species of wildlife. 

The main town of Galera itself is just a short walk from the cave house, where guests can browse shops, have drinks in the bars or wander around the museum. Other nearby areas of interest include Orce, where archaeological digs sit alongside a fresh-water bathing pool, while the Spanish coast is also reachable via a 90-minute drive.

• Perched up a quiet hill, the Benaguacil cave house treats guests to surrounding mountain views. The white, airy walls are punctuated by swathes of colour, as well as rustic wooden doors and overhead beams.

• Heated by a fireplace, and electric heating during the winter, the cave house includes a parlour with patio access, as well as a kitchen complete with a small grill oven, kettle and toaster. Guests will lay their head in the bedroom, fitted with a double bed.

• Dogs are welcome to join guests on their break for a small surcharge. One dog can be brought along for a £20 surcharge, two dogs for £28 and three dogs for £36.
